Steven Mark Fletcher (born 26 July 1972) is an English retired player who played forward with Premier League club Bournemouth, where Fletcher holds the club record for appearances. Fletcher started his career at Hartlepool United and made his debut for the team in 1990. A year later the club moved him to Bournemouth which is where he was to play for the following 15 seasons. He scored the league’s 88 goals in 493 games. Fletcher was signed by Chesterfield at the end of 2007 and played one season at this club prior to moving on to Crawley Town. Fletcher has been appointed as assistant to Lee Bradbury in January 2011 following the departure of Eddie Howe left the club to take over Burnley and signed a two 2-year contract. Fletcher scored the 100th goal in league play for Bournemouth in the 3-3 draw against Peterborough United on 1 April 2011. Fletcher started his career with Hartlepool United before leaving for Bournemouth in 1992 for a fee of PS30,000. He spent 15 years at Bournemouth and recorded more than 600 appearances and scoring 100 goals. The record he holds is his own Bournemouth club record in terms of the most games played in league with 514 league games in the league for Bournemouth. Two months later, he joined Plymouth Argyle on loan until the end of the season, reuniting him with former teammate Carl Fletcher, who was now Plymouth’s manager. “Me and Carl are good friends and go back years. He’s been in touch and trying to get me to Plymouth for a short period of time, it had come to deadline day and I needed to make a decision,” said Fletcher. “It’s the only club I would contemplate going to because Carl is a close friend, if it hadn’t been him I wouldn’t have even thought about it.”
