Steve Cherundolo is one of the most popular and richest Association Football Player who was born on February 19, 1979 in Rockford, Illinois, United States. Steven Emil “Steve” Cherundolo (born on the 19th of February, 1979) is an American former soccer defender, who was until recently an assistant coach with the United States men’s national soccer team. He was head coach of Hannover 96 from the German Bundesliga, where he was a full-time player for his entire career. He was a representative of his country in United States at the 2006 and 2010 FIFA World Cups.
On May 2nd, 2006 Cherundolo was added as a member of the U.S. roster for the FIFA World Cup in Germany. On June 12 in 2006 for the first-time at the age of 26 years old, Cherundolo was the first player to make his debut at the FIFA World Cup match against the Czech Republic, playing in the first part in the U.S., who started the tournament by losing 3-0. The following day during the second game with Italy (who later took the trophy), Cherundolo played the full 90 minutesof the match, aiding the team win an 1-1 draw in the Fritz-Walter Stadium in Kaiserslautern. After losing against Ghana during the last game in the group and a loss to Ghana in the final match, the U.S. was eliminated from the tournament. They finished the group last with only one point.
Cherundolo speaks English and fluent German, having spent his entire professional career in Germany. A popular figure with Hannover fans, he is known as “Dolo” and affectionately nicknamed “Mayor of Hannover”. Cherundolo married Mandy Rosier on New Year’s Eve 2009 at the local Catholic parish church St. Joseph. After his retirement from soccer, he continues to reside with his family in Großburgwedel, near Hanover.
Cherundolo was one of seven defenders named to the U.S. squad for the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa. He was given the number 6. In the first match of Group C against England, Cherundolo was in the starting lineup and played the full 90 minutes in a 1–1 draw at Royal Bafokeng Stadium. On June 18, he retained his position for the second match, playing in the entire game against Slovenia, which finished in a 2–2 draw, with the U.S. coming back from 2–0 down. In the 48th minute of the match, Cherundolo assisted Landon Donovan who beat Slovenian goalkeeper Samir Handanović with a powerful shot. In the final match of the group, Cherundolo again started at right back as the U.S. beat Algeria with a last-minute winner, scored by Donovan, to finish the group in first place with five points. U.S. would lose in the Round of 16 against Ghana, 2–1 after extra time. Cherundolo was an ever-present figure in this competition for the United States, playing the entire 390 minutes.
Cherundolo made the most of his achievements during his time in the Bundesliga into a spot in Cherundolo’s role with the United States national team. Cherundolo made his debut against Jamaica on September 8, 1999. Even though he was on squad to play in 2002’s FIFA World Cup (a late injury replacement for Chris Armas), Cherundolo himself was injured during training right before the tournament began and was unable participate. In 2005’s CONCACAF Gold Cup, Cherundolo suffered a knee injury after an incident that abruptly ended it’s participation at the competition. On the 22nd of March of the 22nd of March, Cherundolo played in a friendly game with his national side against Germany who’s roster included players who were from Hannover 96. The striker scored his debut goal for the national team in the loss of 4-1.

Prior to entering Hannover, Cherundolo enrolled at the University of Portland and played for the Pilots soccer team from 1997 until 1998. In his first season Cherundolo was awarded as the West Coast Conference Freshman of the Year.
Cherundolo joined Hannover 1996, being a part of the 2. Bundesliga at the close of the 1998-1999 season . He soon received first-team recognition and played in four games during in his debut season. As the 1999-2000 season began, Cherundolo established himself at the position of right back He played regularly before suffering an injury to the knee which prevented him from playing until the conclusion of the season. It also eliminated his chances of playing in the U.S. Olympic team. He was able to secure his spot in the team in the 2000-2001 campaign, earning playing time in 18 games, which included ten starts. In the 2001-02 campaign, Cherundolo started 30 of 34 game for the club. they gained advancement to Bundesliga. Cherundolo continued to play during the 2002-03 campaign and played in 33 matches for his team with three assists. In 2003-04 the player continued to show consistency in his appearance, appearing in 33 match for the team. Premier League side Bolton Wanderers signed a contract with Hannover to acquire Cherundolo at the end of 2005 however the player refused, preferring to stay in Germany. He signed a second agreement to extend his contract to Hannover at the end of the 2007 summer.
Cherundolo missed the 2007 CONCACAF Gold Cup due to an injury. He also missed out on the 2009 FIFA Confederations Cup due to another injury, but returned to captain the U.S. during the 2009 CONCACAF Gold Cup.
