Stephen Molumphy is one of the most popular and richest Hurler who was born on January 11, 1984 in Waterford, County Waterford, Ireland. Stephen Molumphy (born 11 January 1984) is an Irish retired hurler who is currently a selector for the Wexford senior team of hurlers. He was a player for the Waterford Senior Championship club Ballyduff Upper and was a part of the Waterford senior hurling team for nine seasons during which time he played in the midfield position and was a left wing-forward.

Molumphy was a second time qualified to play in the Minor Grade for 2002. He scored an equalising goal in the opening round against Cork with a draw. He played his last game for the team on March 31, 2002, when Waterford was beaten by a 1-9 to 1-08 loss against Cork at the start of the second round replay.

On 8 June 2005, Molumphy made his debut for the Waterford under-21 team in the Munster Championship. He scored two points from full-forward in the 2-16 to 0-11 defeat by Cork in what was his only appearance in the grade.

On 6 November 2005, Molumphy lined out at midfield when Ballyduff Upper faced Passage in the Waterford Intermediate Championship final. He was held scoreless from play in the 1-13 apiece draw. Molumphy retained his position at midfield for the replay on 12 November 2005 and ended the game with a winners’ medal following the 1-15 to 0-08 victory.

On the 25th of March, 2001 Molumphy participated in the group that day when St. Colman’s College defeated St. Flannan’s College from Ennis 2-12 to 0-15 in order to win the Harty Cup. The moment St. Colman’s College faced Gort Community School in the All-Ireland final on May 5, 2001 Molumphy was a corner forward. He finished the game with a winner medal following the 2-10 to 2-7 victory.

Molumphy was a member of Molumphy’s Ballyduff Upper club at a young age. He played in every grade at the juvenile and underage levels prior to becoming part of the club’s best adult team for the Waterford Senior Championship. Molumphy is the only player from the club to captain three teams of the top grade to hurling championships, U13A County title in 1997 and A Western title for U21 in 2005, A Western title 2005 and the title for Senior Hurling 2007.

Molumphy initially played for Waterford at the age of 16 when he was a part of the minor side during the 2001 Munster Championship. Molumphy made his debut with the team on April 2001, when he came on as a substitute left wing-forward during the first round loss to Cork.

Molumphy became one of the leaders of the starting fifteen during the 2002 Harty Cup. On 23 March 2002, he scored a point from left wing-forward when St. Colman’s College defeated Our Lady’s Secondary School from Templemore by 2-18 to 0-06 to retain the Harty Cup title. Molumphy was selected at left wing- forward for the All-Ireland final against St. Kieran’s College from Kilkenny on 28 April 2002. He scored a point from play and claimed a second successive All-Ireland medal after an 0-11 to 2-04 victory.
