Stefano Cerioni is one of the most popular and richest Fencer who was born on January 24, 1964 in Madrid, Community of Madrid, Spain. Cerioni is born 1964, in Madrid the city in the city where his father worked. His parents moved to Jesi in Italy as the age of his first little boy. He began his fencing training under Ezio Triccoli, a family friend who also taught Olympic world champions Valentina Vezzali as well as Giovanna Trillini during their early years. He trained in both sabre and foil, however foil became his first choice.
In the 1992 Summer Olympics the athlete was eliminated during the 32nd round, and was unable to compete for the title. Italy was also unable to win an Olympic medal in the team competition. The following year, Cerioni won the gold medal at the 1993 Mediterranean Games and a team silver medal at the 1993 World Championships in Essen, and then a gold team medal at the 1994 World Championships in Athens.
Cerioni became a fencing master after he ended his athlete career. His most famous pupil is Elisa Di Francisca, whom he trained since she was 8. After the 2004 Summer Olympics he succeeded Andrea Magro as director of foil at the Italian Fencing Federation for the men’s team. In 2008 his responsibilities were extended to the women’s. Under his direction Italy won gold medals in men’s team foil and women’s team foil and all three medals in women’s foil at the 2012 Summer Olympics, amongst which his own student Di Francesca.
In December 2012 he announced that he would join the Russian Fencing Federation–Italy’s main rival–as director of foil for both men and women, taking with him assistant coach Giovanni Bortolaso and physical conditioning trainer Maurizio Zomparelli. In the 2013 World Championships in Budapest, Italy took the gold medal in men’s team foil and two bronze medals in women’s foil. The 2014 European Championships in Strasbourg brought two silver medals and two bronze medals. In the World Championships at home in Kazan, Aleksey Cheremisinov took the title while the women’s team earned a silver medal.
In the World Championships in Barcelona, Cerioni made it to the semi-finals which he lost to teammates Andrea Cipressa. Cerioni took on the German Harald Stein for the bronze medal however, he was disqualified due to inappropriate behavior. His temper took a toll on him again during the year 1986 at the World Championships in Sofia: the second time he was given the full year’s ban for his conduct after he abused the officials during his match in the match against Joachim Wendt. Following his return to competition, Cerioni was the winner of in the 1988-87 Fencing World Cup. In the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul Cerioni defeated three-time World champion Aleksandr Romankov in the semi-finals and then Eastern Germany’s Udo Wagner to win an Olympic gold. The team was ranked 7th.

Stefano Cerioni (born 24 January 1964) is a Italian foil fencer. He was Olympic Team champion from 1984. Olympic champions in 1988, and World team champ in 1984 and in 1994. He was a fencing master and later director of foil at first for Italy and later for Russia.
Cerioni took home the silver medal at his 1983 Junior World Championships in Budapest The gold medal followed at the 1984 World Championships in Leningrad. Cerioni also made an Olympic debut in the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles. He progressed to the semi-finals, and there his teammate Mauro Numa. Despite leading 6-1 in the opening period, his team lost 11-9. He took on Frederic Pietruszka of France in the “small final” and prevailed 10-5 to claim the medal of bronze.
In March 1996 his maestro Ezio Triccoli died. Cerioni took over Club Scherma Jesi while going on with his career, earning a team silver medal at the 1997 World Championships in Cape Town. He retired in 2000 after 16 years in the national team.
