Stanislav Kochiev is one of the most popular and richest Politician who was born on April 7, 1954 in Kurta, Shida Kartli, United States. Stanislav Jakovlevich Kochiev (Ossetian: Koshty Iakovy fyrt Stanislav , Georgian: stanislav Kochievi , Russian: Stanislav Iakovlevich Kochiev , born 7 April 1954 , in Kurta, Tskhinval district, South Ossetian Autonomous Oblast, Georgian SSR, Soviet Union) is a South Ossetian politician, who was a presidential candidate in the past and a former chairperson (speaker) of the Parliament of South Ossetia.

At the Presidential election in 2001 Kochiev came second in the vote with 25 percent of votes and was forced to contest a runoff against Eduard Kokoity. Kochiev was defeated in the runoff by 40 percent to 53 percent.

In 1991, following the declaration of independence by South Ossetia, Kochiyev headed the Committee on National Affairs as well as the Ministry of Information and Press.

Kochiev is a native of Kurta Kochiev, and attended school in Tskhinvali which was where he went to the state-run institute for pedagogy. Kochiev graduated from the institute in 1977, and began his career as a high school’s history teacher. In 1980 Kochiev was a member of an local group of Communist Party of the Soviet Union and was made the head of the department of ideology in 1988.

Even though Kochiev’s Communist Party did not fare much better in 2009’s vote, Kochiev was once again elected speaker. In 2014, the Communist Party fared poorly in the 2014 elections losing all of its seats. Kochiev was removed on the speaker’s post by Anatoly Bibilov, a member of the United Ossetia.
