She was born in Spanish Town, Jamaica. Taylor first played with Jamaica’s West Indies during their 2008 tour across Europe in which she gave her team their first Twenty20 victory in her debut. First batting with Ireland, Taylor opened the innings for the West Indies, and scored 90 runs out of 49 balls. The total is second- highest score scored by an West Indian in a Twenty20 International. She then achieved her first half-century of One Day International cricket in the next game. In a slower performance than in the Twenty20 she scored 66 of 97 balls, helping her team beat Ireland. She added another half-century to her second appearance with 70 runs in the match in the match against Netherlands. In 2009’s Women’s Cricket World Cup, she was the West Indies best performer, leading the team both in runs recorded and the number of wickets took. The feat was repeated during the 2009 ICC Women’s World Twenty20, where she scored half-centuries during her team’s first two games. She became the only female player to score a century during three Twenty20 internationals, which she did again in 2010 during three matches in a three-match series against Sri Lanka.
The following month, she received the honor of being awarded Female Cricketer of Year by West Indian Players Association. She was selected in the list of the players of the ICC Women’s T20I Team of the Year.
In November 2018, she was named in Sydney Thunder’s squad for the 2018–19 Women’s Big Bash League season. In January 2020, she was named as the captain of West Indies’ squad for the 2020 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in Australia. She was the leading run-scorer for the West Indies in the tournament, with 84 runs in three matches.
In June 2018, she was named the Women’s Cricketer of the Year and the Women’s ODI Cricketer of the Year at the annual Cricket West Indies’ Awards.
