Her birth was marked by the right foot which was extremely twisted and an splint was put in place in order to make it straighter. However, her right leg was considerably shorter than her left . after Kamlish was nine, her doctor recommended fitting an extension frame that would gradually increase the length of her leg. Kamlish was already suffering from severe discomfort and there was no assurance that the frame would be effective, therefore her family and she opted for a below-the-knee leg amputation. In an interview in 2012, Kamlish declared that it was a wise choice.
On the 17th of September, 2016 at the 16th Summer Paralympics Kamlish beat the World Record in the heats for the T44 100m.
One year later Kamlish was back with her Great Britain team, this time heading to Lyon to take part at the 2012 Lyon. She finished fourth in the 100m sprint, but she won the first international major gold medal when she placed third in the 200m. Kamlish has also represented the country in the 2014 IPC Athletics European Championships in Swansea and at the 2015 World Championships in Doha.

Sophie Kamlish (born 20 August 1996) is a British Paralympic athlete who competes in sprint events within T44 events. She competed for Great Britain at the 2012 Summer Paralympics as well as the 2016 Summer Paralympics.
In 2011, Kamlish was a participant in a ‘Playground to Podium’ tournament in the University of Bath, a program designed to identify promising athletes. Although she played wheelchair basketball as a junior she prefers the solo aspect and self-reliance that is associated with athletics. Kamlish made her debut for the senior team in the 2012 Paralympic World Cup in Manchester and in the same year, she was chosen to be part of her place in the Great Britain team at the London Paralympics. In the London Games she was selected for two events: the 100m and 200m T44 sprints. Kamlish did well in the heats of both events, but failed to get a podium finish in either event, even though she did set an individual record at 200m.
On 17 July 2017, Kamlish broke her own T44 100m world record in the heats at the World ParaAthletics Championships in London. On the same day, she also won her first international gold medal in front of a home crowd, beating four time world champion Marlou van Rhijn.
