The production Purge saw its American debut in the La MaMa Experimental Theatre Club which is located in New York City, on February 10 the 10th of February, 2011. The play’s text has been written to English by Eva Buchwald and the production was directed by Zishan Ugurlu.
In 2012, Oksanen published a map of Soviet Gulag prison camps, drawn by Niilo Koljonen, in the National Audiovisual Archive.
Purge was adapted into an opera, composed by Jüri Reinvere, and it premiered at Finnish National Opera in 2012.
Since October of 2011, the show was staged in 11 countries, with productions taking place in Norway, France, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Iceland, Lithuania, Germany and Hungary. The play premiered at the Arcola Theatre in London in The Arcola Theatre from 22 February until March 24, with a brand new production with Elgiva Field as the director.

She has won numerous domestic and international prizes for her work in the field of literature. She has translated her work into over 40 languages, and has sold more than 2 million copies.
The play written by Oksanen’s father Puhdistus (“Purge”) is performed in The Finnish National Theatre in 2007. Out of the play came Oksanen’s third book Puhdistus (2008). It was number one on the bestseller lists for fiction in Finland when it was first published and has won numerous awards as well as awards in Finland as well as abroad.
Her fourth novel Kun kyyhkyset katosivat (“When the Doves Disappeared [fi] “) was published in Finland August 31, 2012 and it was the most sold Finnish novel of the year. The title refers to German soldiers catching and eating all the pigeons in Tallinn during the German occupation of Estonia.
