Siyabonga Eugene’Nomvethe’ /n M’v e T EI (born 2 December 1977) (born on December 2, 1977) is a South African former soccer player who played forward in a variety of European leagues. He also was a player for AmaZulu FC in the Absa Premiership. Nomvethe was a member of his team Bafana Bafana (South Africa national football team) since his debut on May 6, 1999 and also played in both the 2002 and 2010 World Cups. He is the most prolific all-time scoring goal-scorer for the PSL .
Nomvethe was married to his childhood sweetheart Nompumelelo “Mpumi” Ngubane- Mpanza (b. 1980) on the 6th of July, 2002 at a private Zulu traditional wedding ceremony in KwaMashu D-section township, just outside Durban that was attended only by his family and a few members of the community. The following week, Mpanza faked a kidnapping plot and then lied to police to gain his attention. Nomvethe along with the police discovered that Mpanza had made up a lie to get her visa to reside with Nomvethe and, according to officers, Mpanza was scared Nomvete would abandon her and the baby to different girls living in Italy. The local police spokesperson Superintendent Percy Mthembu, confirmed Mpanza was being investigated as a stymie to the process of justice when she refused to cooperate during the investigation. Mpanza, who was furious, threatened to murder the author of an article in the City Press article and said “I don’t want to spill blood, but I will be forced to. Kuzophuma isidumbu ngalendaba. I’m telling you,” Mthembu said. The extortionists in February of 2002 tried to abduct Mpanza and her infant Lifa twice in Inanda..
In July 2006, he once again moved abroad, this time to play for Aalborg Boldspilklub (AaB) in the Danish Superliga. He stayed with AaB for three years, won the Danish Superliga 2007-08 championship with the club, and scored a goal in the penalty shoot-out as AaB was eliminated by Manchester City in the UEFA Cup 2008-09 round of 16.
In 2009, Nomvethe moved back to South Africa to join Moroka Swallows, rivals of the two soweto giants, Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates he represented during his domestic career. Nomvethe at the age of 34, won the PSL Footballer of the Year, Absa Player of the Season, Players’ Player of the Season and the Lesley Manyathela Golden Boot with 20 goals at the 2011/12 PSL awards which was a total of R600,000.
Nomvethe was first capped in 1999, against Trinidad and Tobago, becoming an official player in the first team from 2001 to 2007. He was a player at 2002’s FIFA World Cup and scored the sole goal in the game against Slovenia. He also played in the 2005 Gold Cup & 2006 African Cup of Nations until the time he was unable to make the national team. He was not picked for in the 2009 Africa Cup of Nations nor the 2009 Confederations Cup under Joel Santana in South Africa.

Nomvethe began his career as a striker for Durban-based lower league team Durban Cosmos in 1994, after which he joined Claremont Blizzards.
He was born in the month of July, 1998. In that same year, he left to become part of the offensive team that is Kaizer Chiefs. After scoring 42 goals over 79 games with Kaizer Chiefs, Nomvethe moved out of the country in 2001. There was speculation that he was as a potential player for the Bafana Bfana. Nomvethe was first introduced on August 8th 1998, scoring in a 2-1 loss against Bloemfontein Celtic. He was injured and absent for a couple of months, but However, he returned in the season and scored eight goals. Nomvethe took the to replace Pollen Ndlanya who left the team. He scored 22 goals across all competitions including three in the BobSave Super Bowl to help Chiefs achieve their very first trophy of silver in the millennium. Nomvethe scored 11 goals during either side of the season. He also scored the Chiefs first goal in the millennium period on 8 January 2000, against his former club African Wanderers. The striker scored 18 goals across every game the following season and scored his tenth goal against Ria Stars on the 21st of January 2001. He scored his final goal on April 24, 2001, in a 5-0 victory against Bloemfontein Celtic in a BobSave Super Bowl quarter final in the 65th minute, which was his 58th goal for Chiefs.
He signed with Italian club Udinese Calcio of the Serie A. In 2002, he was selected to play for South Africa at the 2002 FIFA World Cup. He made his presence clear when scoring the winning goal of the 1–0 win against Slovenia. Following two unsuccessful years at Udinese, Nomvethe was loaned out to smaller Italian clubs Salernitana Calcio and Empoli F.C. from January 2004 to June 2005. He was subsequently loaned out for six months to Djurgårdens IF in Sweden, before he permanently left Udinese in December 2005. He moved back to South Africa, signing on for Orlando Pirates.
