The family was born in Doncaster, South Yorkshire, Weaver was a central defender . He began his professional career as an apprentice at Sheffield Wednesday and made his professional debut in the loan period at Doncaster Rovers in February 1997. He was released by Wednesday and began his journey into the league circuit, first with Ilkeston Town and then Nuneaton Borough.
The summer of 2002 the player made his return back to the Football League, signing for Lincoln City, who were under the direction of Keith Alexander, his former manager at Ilkeston. He signed a one-year contract in July of 2004 and was then sacked as a player in the Lincoln team shortly before the start of the 2004-05 campaign and was listed for transfer upon his request. Following a loan spell for Macclesfield Town, he joined Kidderminster Harriers in the summer of 2004. He was one of the ten players let go at the end of the season when Kidderminster were sent into the Conference National. He signed a contract of 12 months with Scarborough in the month of June in 2005 however, despite the initially being optimistic, his period was not a success and, with Scarborough being in turmoil, Simon was in need of another club to play for in this season.
On 29 May 2008, Weaver joined Conference North newcomers King’s Lynn, after failing to agree a new deal with Boston. He scored three goals in 22 appearances but left King’s Lynn in January after failing to get a regular start in recent weeks. He joined Redditch United, debuting in their 2–1 victory at Hyde United on 31 January 2009. After one further appearance for the club in the away defeat to Fleetwood Town a fortnight later, Weaver rejoined his former club Ilkeston Town. He made a successful debut for the club, netting twice in a 4–3 Northern Premier League Challenge Cup victory at Boston United on 18 February 2009.
