Born on 19 June 1957 on the 19th of June in Watford, Hertfordshire, England, Treves is the eldest son of actor Frederick Treves and the great-great-nephew to Sir Frederick Treves his surgeon, who cared for Joseph Merrick, the Elephant Man.

As actor, he’s been in a variety of top regions of British theatres. He first performed at the RSC at Stratford in 1983. He was back in the year 1986, to portray Joey Percival in Shaw’s Misalliance at the Barbican.

Other commissions include two linked internet audio dramas – Ash and Gold, for totallyword.com; and an original short screenplay, Tweeny, commissioned by Brian Cox and Skreba Films. He recently adapted Jim Broadbent’s A Sense of History for the stage; wrote and directed Smile for Miniaturists 24 at the Arcola; and devised and scripted Neither Here nor There (a celebration of cult Scottish comic Chic Murray), broadcast on BBC Radio 2 in August 2007.

In the early 1980s, he frequently recorded trails for TV-am, one among the first UK breakfast TV channels, TV-am. The voice-overs he did were on behalf of Channel 4, Right to Reply, BBC One as well as numerous commercial, film and radio businesses. He also voiced characters in the computer game Broken Sword: The Sleeping Dragon.
