On June 9, 2009 Ramsden was Bradford City’s initial summer signing. He was a good start for the Bantams in his debut season with 32 appearances, scoring two goals. He was appointed as the captain of the club at the beginning of the season in 2010-11 however, he was only involved in two league matches because of injuries. The 2011-12 season saw him returned to fitness and participated in a private match during November with Tranmere Rovers, which marked his return to the field. Ramsden returned in the team’s first squad on November 2011, in an Football League Trophy game against League One side Sheffield United. The game was decided on penalties, and Ramsden made his own penalty in the shootout. Bradford was able to win the shootout. The player continued to be a part of Bradford playing in five league games before breaking his foot in the 3-1 victory over Shrewsbury. The club revealed that he will be out for 3-6 weeks.
On 10 July 2015, Ramsden signed for Gateshead, agreeing a one-year contract. He made 25 appearances, scoring 1 goal, before picking up an injury in December. He made no further appearances before being released at the end of the season.
On 2 June 2015, Motherwell announced that Ramsden was amongst the players leaving the club, with his contract having expired.
Ramsden was signed by Rochdale as a player from Grimsby Town in January 2006. The first day of January 2007 Ramsden scored two goals for Rochdale when he returned to his old team Grimsby in a 4-0 victory.

The boy was raised at Bishop Auckland, Ramsden started his professional career at Newton Aycliffe Youth Centre A.F.C. Then, he was sought out by Sunderland and following his graduation from the club’s academy for youth players, He was made a member of the first team under Peter Reid during the 2001-02 season. He made his debut as a professional however with Notts County where he would be on loan for the entirety of 2002-03 on loan. His debut on August 24, 2002, when the club suffered a loss to the league by 2-0 in the league against Wigan Athletic. In his absence, Sunderland had sacked Reid along with his substitute Howard Wilkinson and were now under the direction by Mick McCarthy. On the 24th of January, 2004, Ramsden was brought on as a substitute in the 89th minute to Darren Williams in the club’s FA Cup victory over Ipswich Town This is his debut and sole match debut for Sunderland. After the end of the 2003-04 campaign, Ramsden was let go by Sunderland.
Ramsden was signed by Football League Two side Grimsby Town in July of 2004. The initial signing was to cover Tony Crane and Justin Whittle, Ramsden soon became a regular for the first team of Russell Slade’s squad due to injuries sustained by Crane and right-back John McDermott. The player first made his Town debut first game of 2004/05 season , when the club was defeated by Darlington by 1-0. Ramsden was soon sacked of his position as the centre half after Terrell Forbes joined from Queens Park Rangers. After the conclusion of his debut season, Ramsden was involved in 26 games both the cup and league for Grimsby. The 2005-06 season saw a variety of new players were signed, which meant Ramsden was not a regular player and he was dropped from the club in January.
Ramsden trained with Scottish Premier League team Motherwell on trial after turning down a contract offer from Bradford. He was then awarded a one-year contract by the club after his trial was successful. On 17 May 2013, after a successful first season in Scotland, Ramsden signed a new two-year contract with the club.
