Simon Thomas Peter Marsh (born 29 January 1977) is an English former professional footballer who played in the Football League for Oxford United, Birmingham City and Brentford.

In 2002, Marsh was a member of the Southern League team Tamworth in attempt to get fit. He was able to play a half reserve game with Tamworth as a test but was found to be not yet playing at a competitive level. At the beginning of 2003-2002, his performance been able to improve enough to allow Tamworth to make an offer to the player. Small injuries continued to impede Marsh’s playing career. A transfer towards Moor Green was recommended, but it was not the case because Tamworth had a shortage of healthy players. The month of February, 2003 was the time that Marsh was forced to stop training on medical advice following having suffered a major back injury The team went on to win the Southern League title and reach the final of the FA Trophy.

In September 2000, Marsh was brought in by Brentford with a temporary loan. Even though he had to pay the penalty he received on his first appearance, Brentford were interested on making the move permanent , if the fee could be agreed. The agreement never came to fruition so Marsh was sent back to Birmingham at the close in the month. Marsh never made it to the first team again, but played regularly for the reserve team. In April of 2001, with two years left in his agreement, the the player and the club came to an agreement on a termination package.

Marsh is a native of Ealing, London. Primarily a left-back, Marsh joined Oxford United as a YTS trainee after he graduated from his school in the year 1993. His debut came in the Football League Second Division, the third level of English football on the 17th of September 1994, in a 1-1 draw against Brighton & Hove Albion. It was his first of his 13 first-team appearances during 1994-95, his 2nd season as a student, and he also signed his professional form at the close of that season.

In May 1998, he got his first invitation to join the England under-21 side as a member of the team of the Toulon Tournament. He played in the first game of the group which ended in a draw with France under-21. He took not part in the rest of the tournament. While that was the only game for the whole under-21 team, he also played in an official Football League under-21 team which played 1-1 against the Italian Serie B counterparts in November 1998.

The next month, with Oxford in severe financial difficulties, Marsh joined First Division (second tier) club Birmingham City for a fee of £250,000, with additional amounts payable dependent on appearances and Birmingham’s future promotion. He had made 68 appearances for Oxford in all competitions. He made his debut against his former club, as a second-half substitute with Birmingham already 5–0 up on their way to inflicting Oxford’s record home defeat, 7–1. After less than two months with Birmingham, Marsh developed back trouble. He underwent a variety of treatments, including surgery, but ten months later was still unable to play. At the end of the 1999–2000 season, with no improvement in sight, he was told he should look for another club.
