Kimber’s remaining cricketing career was playing in South Africa, again playing for Natal B and in the 1990-91 season, the main team of the province. Kimber was a much more efficient wicket-taker in South Africa than he was in England and he racked up at least four wickets in a first-class match at five times and in January 1992, he scored the only time he had a five-wicket score when he scored 5-63 for Natal B in a match against Transvaal B. He played his last game in December 1993.
In 1987, the year 1987, he was a part of Sussex which he was to stay until 1989. In this time when he scored his first one-class half-century, which was 54 in a match against Nottinghamshire in the early part of August 1987. In 1987, he was in the first-class eight times cricket, which was his highest number in a single season however, one of the few times he played at all like a regular in the one-day version of the game in the following summer, when he played twenty List A appearances. In those matches, he only took 14 wickets, and was unable to make any progress using the bat, scoring only 81 runs over his 11 innings.

After several appearances with an Worcestershire second team and then made his debut in the first-class in the match against Oxford University at The University Parks in the month of May 1985.
