Simon John Elliott (born 10 June 1974 in Wellington) is a retired New Zealand International footballer who was most recently the head coach for USL Championship side Sacramento Republic FC.

Elliott was transferred in January 2004 with the Columbus Crew in exchange for an early round selection during the 2005 MLS SuperDraft. He was a part of every game during the 2005 season, but did not help lead to get the Crew reach the MLS Cup Playoffs as they were unable to finish top of the Eastern Conference.

Elliott returned to Major League Soccer in 2009, signing with the San Jose Earthquakes. He was waived from San Jose prior to the 2010 season opener.

On 10 May 2010, Elliott was named in New Zealand’s final 23-man squad to compete at the 2010 FIFA World Cup, despite not being under contract at any club.

He started his professional career at the A-League (now USL First Division) team Boston Bulldogs in 1999, playing in three games before signing with Major League Soccer club Los Angeles Galaxy in May of 1999. He was named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) in 2000, having scored five goals while delivering five assists. He also helped the team take home the CONCACAF Champions Cup in 2000 and it was the U.S. Open Cup in 2001, and in 2002, the MLS Cup in 2002. He played in 122 games for Galaxy over five seasons and scored 10 goals.

Elliott played for a variety of club within the New Zealand semi-professional Central Premier League in the early 1990s and was a student at Wellington College prior to moving to the United States. Elliott then played soccer in college on the field at Stanford University, where he scored 13 goals and racked up 12 assists.

Elliott made his complete New Zealand national football team debut in a win of 3-0 against Singapore on the 21st of February, 1995. He then was awarded his 50th cap for the A-team in a 3-0 win against New Caledonia on 10 September 2008, scoring 6 goals in the process of achieving the landmark. He played in qualifying matches in 2002’s FIFA World Cup and in the 2003 FIFA Confederations Cup in France. Elliott was part of the New Zealand U-23 squad for their debut participation in the Olympic Games as one of three over-age players along with Ryan Nelsen and Chris Killen He was chosen in this year’s FIFA Confederations Cup New Zealand team that will journey across South Africa.

Elliott caught the eye of Chris Coleman, manager of English Premier League club Fulham, during a pre-season friendly game in July 2005 and joined Fulham in training after the end of the MLS season. He then joined Fulham in January 2006 on a free transfer and made 13 league and cup appearances during the remainder of the 2005–06 season. During the summer he injured a calf muscle, and missed the entire Premier League 2006–07 season through injury; he played in some reserve games towards the end of the season. He was released by Fulham in May 2008.
