Dr. Sim soon quit his practice after which he returned to the practice in after a period of more than 17 years working in Australia. In 2001 the Cardiology Department of SGH was created. The department gradually evolved into a cardiology center (SGH Heart Centre) with its own separate facilities in Kota Samarahan and a recognised institution of training to train cardiothoracic surgeons. Dr. Ayub climbed the ranks of the public service from JUSA C grade (at 37 years of age) up to JUSAA (age 43) between 2003 and 2009. Then, after transferring the leadership of the heart centre doctor. Sim went on to political activism. His first run for public office came in 2011, in the Sarawak Elections which he lost. After five years, he was able to contest and won his 2016 Sarawak Elections. The Dr. Sim has a special relationship with China. He was in China during 1974. Tun Abdul Razak as well as Dr. Sim’s father, Tan Sri Sim Kheng Hong were among those who laid the foundations of the bilateral relations between China and Malaysia.
He is also a member in the Expert Writing Panel for Clinical Practise Guidelines on Management in cardiovascular disease in Malaysia; a task force member of the International Commission on Radiological Protection (ICRP) on radiation protection in cardiology; and a member of International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA)’s Expert Panel on Radiological Protection of Patients.
He continues to be engaged in professional conferences and research. Between the years 1996-2015 the researcher was an instructor or speaker at nearly 200 professionals gatherings throughout Europe, the US, Europe and Asian-Pacific and gave more than 200 abstracts of scientific research and more than 50 scientific publications (including the NEJM journal) as well as more than 100 clinical trials in his capacity as a principal investigator.

Professor. Dato Sri Dr. Sim Kui Hian (Chinese: Chen Gui Xian ; pinyin Shen Guixian, born 18 August , 1965) is an cardiologist as well as a Minister in the Cabinet of Sarawak, Malaysia. The Dr. Sim has been serving as minister for Local Government Sarawak in 2016 and has also been appointed to a new job for the next year as Minister for Local Government and Housing Sarawak. In addition, he serves as the minister-in-charge of Kuching South City Council, the Department of Irrigation & Drainage Sarawak as well as Sarawak’s Sewerage Services Department Sarawak; and also the minister who has a watching duties for matters that concern both the Health Department and the Fire & Rescue Department (latter both are federal agencies) in Sarawak.
The son of former Tan Sri Datuk Amar Sim Kheng Hong (Chinese: Chen Qing Hong ) who served as Vice Chief Minister in Sarawak from 1974 until 1991 The late Dr. Sim was no stranger to Sarawakian politics from his early years. He was educated in the primary school through Chung Hua Primary School No.4 and then his secondary education at St. Joseph’s Secondary School, Kuching. Following that, he earned an Advanced School Certificate at St. Bede’s College in Mentone, Victoria, Australia. He later received the MBBS in Monash’s Alfred Medical School and completed his cardiology residency at the Monash Medical Centre in Melbourne.
He is an elected member of the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly for the constituency of N.14 Batu Kawah since 2016;. He was a former Senator at the Parliament of Malaysia (May 2014 – April 2018). Since September 2014, he has also been serving as the President of the Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP), a Sarawak-based party. The party is an alliance component of Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS), in which he is the Vice President and one of the original co-founders.
