Silvio De Sousa is one of the most popular and richest Basketball Player who was born on October 7, 1998 in Luanda, Luanda Province, Angola. Silvio De Sousa (born 7 October 1998) is an Angolan basketball player in the NCAA Basketball League with the Kansas Jayhawks of the Big 12 Conference. An Angolan born in Luanda, Angola, he was a part of Montverde Academy and then IMG Academy during high school. He played for Angola’s national team Angola national side on several occasions in junior levels.
On the 13th of January, 2018, the NCAA decided that De Sousa immediately eligible to be a part of the 2017-18 Kansas Jayhawks. The first year of his career, the player was averaging 8.8 minutes of playing time, 4.0 points and 3.7 rebound per game in 20 games, which helped the Jayhawks to win their 14th straight Big 12 Conference Championship, Big 12 Tournament Championship, and a Final Four appearance in the NCAA Tournament.
On 21 January 2020, in a game against Kansas State, De Sousa was dribbling out the ball in an 81–59 game in favor of Kansas when he was stripped by Kansas State player DaJuan Gordon with 3.1 seconds remaining in the game. De Sousa blocked Gordon’s dunk attempt as time expired then stood over and taunted him, which sparked a brawl between both teams. De Sousa threw several punches and picked up a chair before he was restrained by assistant coach Jerrance Howard. De Sousa was suspended indefinitely by Kansas for his role in the brawl. The Big 12 announced his suspension will be 12 games, however, Bill Self stated he may continue the suspension beyond the 12 games. He was eligible to return for the Jayhawks’ final regular-season game against Texas Tech on 7 March.
In the course of the October 2018 court trial for corruption in the college game, which involved two Adidas officials and an aspirant NBA agent, evidence was provided by TJ Gassnola. Gassnola was an ex-consultant for Adidas and alleged that the guardian of DeSousa’s, Fenny Falmagne, had agreed to accept the sum of $60,000 from an unidentified Maryland booster to direct De Sousa to that program. Gassnola also testified that he paid Falmagne $2,500 in order to cover expenses for online education which De Sousa needed to graduate high school before the deadline. He also was willing to pay $20,000 Falmagne to release De Sousa from the commitment to the Maryland booster, but the payment not made. De Sousa ultimately committed to Kansas as one of the names of victims within the Federal indictment. Falmagne has repeatedly stated that neither the two of them De Sousa accepted any money to help steer De Sousa to Kansas, declaring it was “Coach Self is not about that (paying players). That is one of the things I really appreciate about him. … That’s when we went over there (to visit KU).”
