It is about two sisters who travel to Bulgaria to mourn their Bulgarian father, who immigrated to the country, who committed suicide by hanging himself. Their driver Ruben Apostoloff is trying to make them feel more enthused about the natural beauty and the culture of Bulgaria. The book was awarded to Lewitscharoff his Leipzig Book Fair Prize and the Marie Luise Kaschnitz Prize.

The novel Blumenberg was published in 2011 and features the philosopher Hans Blumenberg who in the novel one evening finds a lion at his desk; and the book subsequently focuses on Blumberg’s thoughts on lions in philosophy, history and theology. Lines are drawn to Hieronymus, Marc, Thomas Mann and other historical figures relationship to the lion. The appearance of the lion makes Blumenberg feel selected. The novel also tells about four of Blumenberg’s students.

In 2013 she received the Georg Büchner Prize for “[re-exploring] the boundaries of what we consider our daily reality with an inexhaustible energy of observation, narrative fantasy and linguistic inventiveness”.

The novel was released in 2006. novel Consummatus was named for the final words spoken by Jesus at the foot of his cross as recorded in John’s Gospel of John Consummatum is (it is complete). The principal character of the novel is German instructor Ralph Zimmermann and the book explores his inner monologue when he is alone on a Saturday morning in the Stuttgart café, drinking coffee and vodka. The themes he is thinking about revolve about death, both of his parents who died in an accident, and of his lover Johanna (Joey) as well as pop idols like Andy Warhol, Jim Morrison and Edie Sedgwick.
