Following Formula One, Nakano went to race in Champ Car for Walker Racing and Fernandez Racing. The racer made 56 starts between 2000 and 2002. He had a his best point finish at 17th place in the year 2002. his best race finish of 4th in The 2002 Molson Indy Toronto. He also began as 15th for the 2003 Indianapolis 500 for Beck Motorsports and finished 14th. He took part both in 2006 and the in the 2008 24 Hours of Le Mans races.
