The year 2005 was the first time McKnight instructed a course at Pontifical College Josephinum in Ohio named “The Latin Rite Deacon”. St. Meinrad Permanent Deacon Formation Program in Indiana offered a class titled “Theology of the Deacon” taught by McKnight between 2005 and 2010.
After completing his term at the USCCB, McKnight was appointed pastor of the Church of the Magdalen in Wichita. He served as pastor from 2015 to 2018.
Pope Francis appointed McKnight bishop of the Diocese of Jefferson City on November 21, 2017. McKnight was the fifth bishop to come from the Diocese of Wichita since 1998. He was consecrated on February 6, 2018. The Catholic Diocese of Jefferson City has 81,000 Catholics, 95 parishes and 15 missions.
McKnight was ordained as a Priest on the 28th of May, 1994, for McKnight’s Diocese of Wichita. From 1994 until 1997, he was the vicar for the parish of Blessed Sacrament in Wichita. The year 1999 was the time he served as the parish administrator of Saint Patrick Parish in Chanute, Kansas. In Newman University, he was the Chaplain and adjunct professor in 2000 and 2001 , which coincided with his pastoral duties at Saint Mark the Evangelist parish in Colwich, Kansas from 2000 to 2003. From 2000 until 2005, he was director of divine worship for the diocesan church as well as diocesan consultant and presbyteral council member. He was back at the Josephinum as director of liturgy from 2003 until 2007 as associate professor in 2003 until the year 2008, dean for student from 2004 until 2006 director of formation in 2006 until 2007 and vice president for alumni and development between 2007 and 2008. McKnight was the pastor of Blessed Sacrament in Wichita from the year 2008 until 2010.

William Shawn McKnight (born June 26 1968) is the bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Jefferson City.
McKnight received a degree in biochemistry at McKnight’s biochemistry department at the University of Dallas in 1990. McKnight enrolled at the seminary, and completed his studies in ecclesiastical studies in the year 1994. He holds graduated with a master of arts in theology as well as an master’s degree in divinity from the Pontifical College Josephinum Seminary in Columbus, Ohio. He was a student at the Pontifical Athenaeum of Saint. Anselm in Rome where he was a specialist in sacramental theology and was awarded a licentiate degree in 1999, and a doctorate in sacred theology in 2001.
From 2010 until 2015, McKnight served in the USCCB’s Secretariat for Clergy, Consecrated Life and Vocations. This position provides leadership and guidance to priests in their ministry, assists the Bishops’ Committee on Child and Youth Protection, and addresses priesthood concerns with the public.
