Shavarsh Karapetyan is one of the most popular and richest Swimmer who was born on May 19, 1953 in Vanadzor, Armenia. Karapetyan was born the 19th of May 1953 in Armenia’s 3rd largest city, Kirovakan (now known as Vanadzor) that was once in the Soviet Union. His family relocated from Kirovakan to Yerevan in 1964, and there Shavarsh completed his eight years of high school and then went to a technical institute for auto-mechanics. Based on the recommendations of his family members and family members, he began learning swimming as a child. He then changed to finswimming. Between 1975 and 1976, Karapetyan served in a Soviet Air Defence Forces base located in Baku. Shavarsh Vladimiri (Vladimirovich) Karapetyan (Armenian: Shavarsh Karapetyan born May 19th 1953) is a retired Armenian finswimmer who is well-known for helping to save the lives of 20 individuals in a tragedy in 1976 in Yerevan.

Karapetyan is Karapetyan is a Merited master of Sports of the USSR and an ten- time World Record-breaker finswimming. The swimmer became well-known within the old USSR for his heroism in saving the lives of people. On the 16th of September, 1976 when jogging along Yerevan Lake with his brother Kamo who was who was also a finswimmer. Karapetyan had just finished his normal distance of 20 kilometers (12 miles) when he heard the sound of a crash. He also witnessed a trolleybus sinking that was into the air and sunk from the dam’s wall.

Karapetyan took part in the 2014 Winter Olympics torch relay for the second stage of the run. He was passed the torch in Moscow and carried it towards Krasnogorsk. The next day, Karapetyan carried the torch for a second time. He also stated in an interview, “I was carrying the torch for Russia and for Armenia.”
