Hinton took home her Miss District of Columbia USA 2002 title in November 2001, which was the first time she participated in the contest. Hinton comes originally from Starkville, Mississippi and she was eligible to compete in the contest since she was enrolled at Howard University.

She plays a live action character, reporter Brittany Bhima, in the video game Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars, released in 2007.
