Shaun Hart is one of the most popular and richest Australian Rules Footballer who was born on May 17, 1971 in Ferntree Gully, Australia. Shaun Hart (born 17 May 1971) was an Australian rules football player which played in the Brisbane Bears/Lions in the Australian Football League. Hart was part of the Brisbane’s Hatrick of premierships between 2001 and 2003 and also in the reserves premiership of the club in 1991. Hart is the current coach’s director in Port Adelaide Power and has been a coach assistant.
In 2001, he was presented with the highest honour he could receive in 2001, the Norm Smith Medal for being the top on the ground in the Lions first premiership victory. He would also go to play a key role in the Lions success in 2002 and 2003.
Unable to take his place in the Lions side for the 2004 Grand Final, he was forced to watch from his hospital bed as his team failed to maintain a half- time lead over Port Adelaide due to injuries to key forwards Jonathan Brown and Alastair Lynch. He announced his retirement from football not long afterwards.
In the 2004 Preliminary Final, with the Lions poised to enter a playoff for a record-equalling fourth consecutive premiership, Hart was unlucky enough to find himself in the path of teammate Daniel Bradshaw on a lead. Bradshaw was unable to avoid a collision and Hart emerged with massive facial injuries. He was immediately taken to hospital, where shocked medical staff commented that his injuries were consistent with being in a car crash at speed without wearing a seat belt. As a consequence of consistent head injuries, for much of his career, he wore a soft helmet.
He was initially unable to cope in the demands of professional sports, and played a lot of reserve grade football. This helped him earn an opportunity to play in the Bears sole premiership team through his eligibility to play at the reserve level in 1991’s Grand Final.
