Sharon Rich (born June 11 in 1953) is an American writer and film historian. She is best known for her biography Sweethearts about the 1930s’s top singing stars Jeanette MacDonald as well as Nelson Eddy.
She was close to friends for several times with Jeanette MacDonald’s older sister the actress Blossom Rock (aka Marie Blake). Along with conducting interviews with many people Rich was able to access several collections of personal letters, personal scrapbooks, Eddy’s scrapbooks and diary notes, FBI files and MacDonald’s unpublished autobiography (which Rich later annotated in 2004). As a follow-up to Sweethearts, Rich has written numerous books, edited and written over 70 magazine articles.
She is also president of the biggest Jeanette MacDonald/Nelson Eddy fan club in the United States, the MacDonald/Eddy Friendship Club which she founded in the latter part of the 1970s. Rich was named an Dame in the state of Malta in 1995 due to her contribution to the field of history and literature. In 1995, she visited Washington, D.C., to ask for MacDonald and Eddy’s images included on stamps of postage. She was accompanied by approximately 20 supporters and had collected over 20,000 signatures in support of the campaign.

The first book of Rich’s, Jeaneatte MacDonald: A Photographic History (1974) published in 1974, was published at the age of twenty-years-old. Rich decided to write the book as she was of the opinion it was a shame that “very few idols” left around the globe.
Sweethearts was published as a hardcover in 1994. It was selected by the Entertainment Book Club. The release celebration occurred in the American Film Institute in Washington, D.C. where Rich was invited to speak as a guest. Rich was able to spend 20 years researching the book. The book was updated and revised in 2014.
