As a composer, she is best known for her choral compositions as well as the chamber opera baroque “You Us We All”. Composers from the new music genre Sarah Kirkland Snider, David Lang, Steve Mackey and Bryce Dessner have composed pieces for Nova’s voice. Nova has been had guest performances for David Byrne, Laurie Anderson, The Decemberists, Sufjan Stevens, Jedi Mind Tricks, The Blind Boys of Alabama and Stateless and has extensive collaborative work with artists like Matthew Ritchie and Matthew Barney. She was previously the leader of AwRY. On March 3, 2016, Shara legalized her name, from Worden and changed it to Nova after she divorced her husband, with whom she was married for all of her adult life.
Nova has graduated from University of North Texas with an undergraduate degree in vocal performance. Following college, she stayed within Moscow, Russia, for one year, where she learned Russian and composed songs. She released a self- released EP that was limited edition, Session I. Then she moved in New York City, where she continued to study opera under Josephine Mongiardo. In 2009, Nova relocated into Detroit, Michigan.

As of 2001 Nova independently released two records together along with guitar player Shane Yarbrough under the moniker Awry the Orange Album and Quiet B Sides. A brief tour was held following when the two albums were released. After which the group disbanded. Between 2002 and 2003, Nova composed songs for the Adam Rapp production of Trueblinka (directed by Simon Hammerstein) and subsequently for the production of Hammerstein’s Jean-Paul Sartre’s Men Without Shadows (Morts sans sepulture). She began to study the art of composition alongside Padma Newsome during this time. In 2004, she started touring with Sufjan Stevens’ band on the tour that accompanied the album “Michigan”. Nova was made a Kresge performing arts fellow in the year 2012.
Nova made a guest appearance for The Jedi Mind Tricks album Servants in Heaven, Kings in Hell in 2006 as well as for the Vinnie Paz album Season of the Assassin in 2010. In 2008, Nova was the background vocalist of Laurie Anderson during five performances at The Rose Theater for the TV show Homeland. She sang as a guest for “The Wanting Comes in Waves/Repaid” as well as “The Queen’s Rebuke/The Crossing” from the album released in 2009 from The Decemberists, The Hazards of Love and sang vocals on the track “The Queen”. She also was a part of The Decemberists on their “A Short Fazed Hovel Tour” together with Becky Stark from Lavender Diamond. She also sang vocals on Sufjan Stevens album The Age of Adz, particularly taking the lead in the song “Impossible Soul”. Nova was a part of and composed the track “Nine” for Bryce and Aaron Dessner’s multimedia performance The Long Count with texts and images created by Matthew Ritchie. The Long Count was performed at the Krannert Center (2009), BAM (2009) as well as The Holland Festival (2012) and the Barbican Centre (2012). In January 2012, Nova was the first to perform the cycle of songs Death Speaks by David Lang along with the pianist Nico Muhly, violinist Owen Pallett and guitarist Bryce Dessner. The year 2015 saw Nova was the vocalist for Sarah Kirkland’s Unremembered and performed her debut operetta (co-written together with Andrew Ondrejcak), You Us We All within The United States.
