Shao Jiayi (Chinese: Shao Jia Yi Shao Jia Yi; pinyin: Shao Jiayi ; born 10 April 1980) is a Chinese former professional footballer who was midfielder. He was a member of Beijing Guoan (two spells), TSV 1860 Munich, Energie Cottbus and MSV Duisburg in addition to MSV Duisburg as well as the China national team, with whom was a participant during the 2000 AFC Asian Cup, 2002 FIFA World Cup and 2004 AFC Asian Cup.
On the 13th December of the year 2011, Shao came back to his home in the Chinese Super League to rejoin his former club Beijing Guoan after playing nine years in Germany. On the 29th of October, 2015 Shao declared that he was deciding to quit football.
After his participation at the 2002 FIFA World Cup, Shao attracted enough attention to be awed Bundesliga team 1860 Munich, who signed the player on a loan agreement for four years from Beijing. The permanent transfer was announced on the 14th of January, 2003. The cost was estimated to be around EUR1.3 million. Shao played for three-and-a-half seasons before moving from Energie Cottbus, signing a three-year contract on the 13th of July 2006.

Shao Jiayi began his career as a footballer in the 1999 season of the league playing for the top club Beijing Guoan where then manager Shen Xiangfu promoted him into in the team’s first. Despite a change of management that saw Milovan Doric as well as Wei Kexing coming in the next campaign, Shao gradually started to make himself a regular part of the team . Due to his dominant presence in central midfield, he became known to be one of the most thrilling athletes on the field in Chinese football. Shao then assisted in guiding the team towards winning the 2000 Chinese FA Cup final which they lost 4-2 in aggregate to Chongqing Lifan. Following his breakthrough performance in the 2000 campaign, Shao became a vital part of the team’s midfield and was able to guide the team into an additional Chinese FA Cup final in 2001, this time they had to face Dalian Shide, losing 4-1 by a score of 4-1.
Shao’s achievements during his time with Beijing Guoan led to him being selected by the then coach Bora Milutinovic. He was then selected to join his Chinese national team. He was part of the team that finished fourth in the 2000 AFC Asian Cup. Shao had greater success with the national team after Shao was part of the squad that was able to qualify to the 2002 FIFA World Cup. The tournament was held in Beijing, and Shao played in two games and was sent off with red cards against Turkey and a red card against Turkey, while China were eliminated from the stage of group play. Shao played as a crucial player for China’s national team during the tournament of 2004 AFC Asian Cup where he scored three goals in the tournament that led China to finish second.
He scored his first goals for Energie Cottbus at home against Hertha BSC and away to Borussia Dortmund after coming on as a substitute in both matches. After extending his stay with Energie Cottbus for two more seasons, on 30 June 2011, Shao signed with 2. Bundesliga side MSV Duisburg and made his debut for the club on 17 July 2011 in a 3–2 loss against Karlsruher SC.
