Mark Criner (born December 18 in 1966) is a famous American professional football player. He is currently the coach of linebackers and an assistant Special Teams coach with the team of the XFL’s Seattle Dragons. On the college level the defensive coordinator was a part of his duties for six years in the University of Idaho, and had the same role for a number of years at Middle Tennessee, Cincinnati, Portland State, the original XFL’s Las Vegas Outlaws, and CSU-Pueblo. He also served as an assistant to the defensive team in Minnesota, Eastern Michigan, Utah State, Lamar, LSU as well as LSU, the American Football League’s Atlanta Legends, and Tulane.
After his time as a coach at Utah State, Criner coached at Portland State for eight seasons under the direction of head coach Tim Walsh. Criner played as a Special Teams Coach and Secondary Coach Coordinator from 1993-1995 , and Linebackers Coach and Defensive Coordinator between 1996 and 1999. The time was when Portland State made the NCAA Division II playoffs three times between 1993 and 1995 prior to changing into NCAA Division IAA.
Following the folding of the XFL in 2002, Criner joined the Cincinnati football staff as Co-Defensive Coordinator and Linebackers Coach under head coach Rick Minter. Criner’s defense ranked in the top 30 in both seasons he was with the Bearcats.
Criner served as Defensive Coordinator and Safeties coach at Middle Tennessee from 2004–2005 under head coach Andy McCollum.
Criner started his career as a coach in the year 1991 in Utah State, where he played two seasons as a coach of Outside Linebackers with head Coach Charlie Weatherbie.
