She played women’s test cricket for India in 16 matches between 1976 until 1991, and was captain of the team for eight matches between 1976 and 1977 as well as four matches in 1983-84. India scored its first ever test victory in November of 1976, against West Indies under Shantha’s captaincy at the Moin-ulHaq Stadium in Patna. She also took part in 19 Women’s One Day Internationals from 1981-82 until 1986, as captain during 16 matches between 1981-82 until 1983-84.
In October of 2019 She became the very first Indian female cricketer who represented BCCI, the Indian Cricketers’ Association as well as BCCI Apex Council. BCCI Apex Council.
In 19 ODIs she scored 287 at 15.1 and took 12 wickets for 29.41.
