Shane David Jett (born December 5 1974) is a Cherokee American politician from the state of Oklahoma and was an elected part of the Oklahoma House of Representatives from 2004 to 2010, where he represented House District 27. He is currently running in the race for Senate District 17 which covers northern Pottawatomie County and eastern Oklahoma County.

In 2009, when he was as a state representative, Jett proposed a bill to change the state flag for Oklahoma that would include italicizing and angling the term “Oklahoma” and adding an exclamation mark after it. Jett presented the bill in before the International Relations and Tourism Committee. Jett’s goal was to incorporate Oklahoma spirit into Oklahoma’s state flag and possibly promote tourism.

In 2014, Jett announced his candidacy for the Republican nomination for the 5th Congressional District of Oklahoma. During a June 2014 campaign debate with the other four Republican candidates, Jett indicated that he would not have voted to raise the debt ceiling and would not have voted for John Boehner to remain as Speaker of the House. Jett’s biggest focus during his Congressional campaign was getting elected to reduce government spending, supporting a federal balanced budget amendment and a line-item veto. Jett indicated that he is a supporter of Second Amendment gun rights. Jett indicated that he is pro-life on abortion and would support a human life amendment to the U.S. Constitution. Jeff finished fifth, with 12.3% of the vote, in a six candidate field. Steve Russell won the Republican primaries and ended up holding the Congressional seat from 2015 to 2019.

In 2015, Jett ran for the at-large seat of the Council of the Cherokee Nation. Jett finished third behind Wanda Hatfield and Betsy Swimmer. Hatfield received 1,057 votes, Swimmer 770 votes, and Jett 717 votes.

As of 2008, Jett was a candidate for the reelection of House district 27 once more and beat Democrat Cole Koszara, a machine operator from Harrah, Oklahoma by 73 percent to 27 percent. Then, in April of 2008 Jett received a recommendation to be an officer for the United States Navy Reserve. Jett was then able to retire as Lieutenant.

Jett first sought an open place on his first run for the Oklahoma House of Representatives on November 5th 2002. The the incumbent Democratic Rep. Dale Smith; however, Jett was able to hold the incumbent by less than 50 percent and was just one percent closer to beating the incumbent 48.6 percent to 47.5 percent.

In 2004 Smith was appointed a term limiter following 14 years of service, which left the seat unfilled. Jett beat Kevin Roland in the general election on November 2nd in 2004 as well as being elected to the Oklahoma House of Representatives, the first Republican to be elected to House district 27 , in the state’s history. The year 2006 was the last time Jett got reelected with more than 60 percent of votes.

In 2010, Jett decided not to run for re-election to the Oklahoma House, but ran instead for the 5th Congressional District seat in Oklahoma City metro area. He finished fourth, with 10.7% of the vote, in a seven candidate field. James Lankford won the Republican primary and was later elected to the job.
