A religious Zionist who served as an official member of the Knesset for Yesh Atid between 2013 and 2015, as well was Minister of Education from 2013 to 2014.
In March of 2015, Piron called for Israel to ensure that all schools incorporate”Nakba”, or the “Nakba” in their curriculum: “I’m for teaching the Nakba to all students in Israel. I’m not convinced that a student could be a part of the Israeli education system and not learn, whereas 20 percent pupils have an identity, an narrative and do not know the story.” Piron also said that introducing the subject in schools could alleviate some of the racial conflicts that are present within Israeli the society. Piron’s remarks brought about a change in the tradition of the Israeli narrativeand is in conflict with the attempts of certain Israeli lawmakers to cut funding for schools that feature”Nakba” as their official language “Nakba”.
He was in the second spot on the list of party members in the elections of 2015 and was re-elected after the party took 11 seats. After the election He was elected Deputy speaker in the Knesset.
