Karatantcheva then played at the Western & Southern Open, qualifying into the main draw by beating world No. 64 Arantxa Rus and Olga Govortsova. In the first round of the main draw, she won against fellow qualifier Kiki Bertens, but was soundly beaten by former world No. 1 Caroline Wozniacki in the second round. Her next tournament was the US Open. Ranked world No. 85, she was given direct entrance into the main draw. She lost to Lourdes Domínguez Lino in the first round.

Karatancheva’s debut event of the year included her first tournament of the year, which was ASB Classic, where she has begun her qualifying process and lost in the final round of qualifying to Urszula Radwanska despite previously beating two of her opponents. Karatancheva was not able to make it to in the Australian Open, after losing in the second round of qualifying against Alexandra Panova. In February, Karatantcheva took part in the Abierto Mexicano Telcel, where she began her qualification process. She was defeated by a straight set during the 3rd qualifying match by Lucie Hradecka.
