Serhiy Knyazev (Ukrainian: Sergii Kniaziev ; born on October 18, 1971) is a Ukrainian official who was the Chief of the Ukraine’s National Police from 8 February 2017 to 25 September 2019.
Following that July 15th Mukacheve shootout between Police along with Right Sector Knyazev was transferred to head his unit, the Zakarpattia Oblast Police. From April through November 2016, he was transferred to Rivne Oblast to fight amber mining that is illegal. Beginning in November 2016, Knyazev was appointed the head of the Criminal Investigation Department of the National Police of Ukraine. On February 8th, 2017 he was appointed the director of the National Police of Ukraine. Knyazev announced his resignation on the 24th of September 2019 at a press conference the day following his ex-wife was detained on the Polish border along with their employer Vadym Kahan and 500 000 euros. The following day, Knyazev’s Cabinet of Ministers approved the resignation and substituted him with Ihor Klymenko who was before was Knyazev’s Deputy Chief of the National Police.
After the beginning of the war in Donbass in 2014, Knyazev was moved to Donetsk. In November 2014, he was appointed the deputy chief of the Donetsk Oblast Police Region and head of the criminal force. He participated of the Battle of Debaltsevo. In December 2014, he received presented with the Order of Danylo Halytsky “for courage and heroism in defending the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine.”
