Sebastian Bachmann (born November 24 26th, 1986) is an German foil fencer who was a gold medallist from the 2011 World Championships and bronze medallist at the 2012 Summer Olympics.
Bachmann has secured his spot in his place in the 2012 Summer Olympics by a team. In the individual event , he beat Russia’s Renal Ganeyev but lost the Italian Valerio Aspromonte at the top of the table of 16. In the team event, Germany won over Russia however they lost against Japan at the quarter-finals with only one hit during overtime. This left Bachmann dissatisfied since two of his shots were rejected by the official. Germany faced against the USA in the match to claim gold medals. In the seventh round, Gerek Meinhardt Bachmann fell off the slope and fractured his knee. The match was halted to allow for medical treatment and Bachmann was substituted with substitute Andre Wessels. Germany won 45-27 and won the bronze medal. Bachmann completed in the season of 2011-12 No.18 in the world rankings, a record in 2015.
He was part of the national team’s senior squad in 2009 for the European Championships in Plovdiv. Germany were defeated by just one hitting in the semi-finals to Italy at the quarter-finals however, they prevailed against Great Britain in the “small final” to claim bronze. In the same year, during the World Championships in Antalya Germany reached the final but they were again defeated by Italy and destined to take home winning the gold medal. They won two other bronze medals from 2011, both at the World Championships in Catania and at the 2011 European Championships in Legnano.

Bachmann started fencing when he was 5 in the excitement which followed the fencing wins 1998’s Summer Olympics particularly because the town he grew up in was far from Tauberbischofsheim the country’s stronghold for foil. He started with fencing with epee and foil before turning his attention to foil when he was an teen.
Bachmann has won the junior national championships both in 2005 and 2006.. He made up the group that won silver at the 2006 Junior World Championships in Linz. This led him to be a part of the Sports Development Group of the Bundeswehr (German: Sportfordergruppe der Bundeswehr) in Stuttgart. In 2008, he moved from the Fencing Club Tauberbischofsheim and joined the Sports Development Group in Cologne-Longerich and was a part of the Olympischer Fechtclub Bonn (OFC Bonn) with an impressive foil team, led by the federal head coach Ulrich Schreck. Additionally, he pursued studies in computing in Cologne’s University of Cologne.
At the 2013 European Championships in Zagreb Germany knocked off Hungary and Great Britain, then prevailed over Poland in the final to give Bachmann his first major gold medal. At the World Championships in Budapest he reached the quarter-finals for the first time in his career. He met the USA’s Miles Chamley-Watson and took a 10–3 lead, but the American managed to come back. Bachmann lost 14–15 on a controversial red card and Chamley-Watson eventually won the gold medal. The following year, at the Kazan World Championships, Bachmann met Chamley-Watson again, this time in the table of 32. He acquired a 12–5 lead. On 14–7 for Bachmann Chamley-Watson was shown a red card for turning his back during the bout, allowing the German to win 15–7. Bachmann reached again the quarter-finals, where he was stopped by Russia’s Timur Safin.
