In the 2015 European Aquatics Championships he won the gold medal in the 200-meter freestyle. He was a participant both in 2012 and the 2016 Olympics in the Olympics, finishing 5th in the 100 meters freestyle event in 2012.
Verschuren was selected for the Verschuren qualified for the Summer Olympics at Rio de Janeiro in the 100 and 200 meter freestyles and 4 x 200 meters freestyle relay. In the 200-meter freestyle, he placed 11th in the semi- finals.
