The month of January was 2014 when Stallings was the winner of his first Farmers Insurance Open by just one stroke against five other players. In the next year, to defend of his title Stallings was eliminated in a sudden-death tournament of four players having come from behind by three strokes during the last round. He was eliminated on the opening extra hole, after which he could only manage a par.

He was able to make birdie on his first playoff hole, and his rivals, Bob Estes and Bill Haas were able to make par that earned the tournament winner the title. The victory elevated Stallings from 88th position in his FedEx Cup standings to 26th. His OWGR rank was lowered from 224th position to 119th, having started the year 562nd. The victory also qualified Stallings for the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational, the 2011 PGA Championship, 2012 Masters Tournament along with the 2012 Players Championship. Stallings took home his second professional tournament in the 2012 True South Classic. Stallings could not keep his winning streak alive in Mississippi due to his earning his spot in the 2013 Open Championship after an already exempt Phil Mickelson won the Scottish Open. This was the second time in a row that major Stallings received admission as an alternate. He was granted entry to the U.S. Open after another player pulled out.

Stallings was born in Worcester, Massachusetts. He was a student at Oak Ridge High School in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, and was an all-state golfer, and an all- time member of the Dean’s List. He was a student at Tennessee Tech, where he was twice the Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Year with seven wins and was named an All-American in 2006.

Between 2008 and 2009 Stallings was a participant in both the Tarheel Tour and the NGA Hooters Tour. He took his first trip to Golf Tour’s Qualifying School, where he failed to earn an PGA Tour card by a single stroke. The result earned him the status of a player as a member of the Nationwide Tour. He cut 19 times in 28 events and placed 53rd overall on the Nationwide Tour. In 2010, he performed at Q School in 2010 and completed T11 to earn his card for the 2011 season. The beginning was difficult for him and was unable to make the first five rounds, and then finished in T42 at the Puerto Rico Open for his first PGA Tour finish. The next tournament which was The Transitions Championship, earned him an overall third place. Because of a kind gesture from his practice partner Kenny Perry, who is sponsored by the tournament’s patron Transitions Optical and shares an agent with Stallings, Stallings got into the event on an exemption for sponsors. Third place was the best possible exemption for a sponsor during this tournament.

On July 7, 2015, Stallings was given a three-month suspension for violating the Tour’s drug policy. He took a supplement that was on the banned substances list and self-reported his violation to the PGA Tour.
