Scott McBrien (born February 14 1984) was an American former football player. He played for various teams in the college and professional leagues particularly, his team, the Green Bay Packers in the NFL and the Maryland Terrapins at the University of Maryland. In the present, he is a color commentator on Big Ten Network football games.

As of 2002 McBrien played in every game played by his team, the Maryland Terrapins. In the opener against Akron McBrien scored his first rushing touchdown of his career and added another score by throwing eight yards towards Derrick Fenner. In the game against Eastern Michigan McBrien racked up 300 passing yards with three touchdowns. One of them was the second-longest touchdown pass in school history with Steve Suter for 91 yards. In his old school, West Virginia, McBrien played a major role in leading the Terps to a win of 48-17 by throwing a 45-yard playaction passing for Jafar Williams. In the game against Duke McBrien rushed for a touchdown and completed an 89-yard pass to Latrez Harrison to score an important touchdown. McBrien was averaging 31.7 yards per completion in North Carolina including an 80-yard touchdown pass towards Scooter Monroe. In the 14th game of N.C. State, he helped set up an important game-winning Nick Novak field goal with a 36-yard pass with Steve Suter. In the game against Clemson, McBrien tied two of his career-highs by throwing three touchdowns and three interceptions. In 2003’s Peach Bowl against Tennessee He was named the Most Outstanding offensive player of the game and was able to run seven times for three touchdowns and 36 yards. In the course of the season, he was fifth ever at the school in both passing performance (141.3) in passes distance (2,497). In the course of the season, McBrien was ranked third in ACC as well as 12th overall in the NCAA in passing efficiency.

In 2004, McBrien signed as an undrafted free agent with the Green Bay Packers, where he saw action in the pre-season as a back-up behind Brett Favre. Green Bay released McBrien in September 2004, only to re-sign and allocate him to the NFL Europe’s Rhein Fire in January 2005, in order to gain experience. With the Fire, McBrien threw for 13 touchdowns and 12 interceptions, and was subsequently released by the Packers.

In 2006, McBrien was signed as a free agent by the Montreal Alouettes of the Canadian Football League (CFL). He played with the Alouettes for two seasons.

The year 2001 saw him was transferred from his home institution, the University of Maryland in his sophomore year. He was required under NCAA regulations to be absent for a whole season.

McBrien was born in Rockville, Maryland to Ernie McBrien and Kathleen McBrien. McBrien attended DeMatha Catholic High School in Hyattsville, Maryland. As a senior in 1999 he was instrumental in establishing the team to a 13-0 year as well as a 13th-place USA Today national ranking. The year before McBrien completed 90 of 131 passes, totalling 25 touchdowns and 1,878 yards with no interceptions. Through his high school years McBrien won the distinction of two Washington Post All-Met and two PG Journal all-county honors. In 1999 McBrien was named Prince George’s County Most Valuable Player.

In 2003, McBrien again led the Terrapins to a win over his former school, West Virginia, 34–7. Against Clemson, he threw for three touchdowns and no interceptions, including a season-long pass to Derrick Fenner for 69 yards and a score. In the North Carolina game, McBrien’s career-high four touchdown passes tied for number-six the school single-game record. In what was Maryland’s fourth-straight cliffhanger victory over a Philip Rivers-led N.C. State, McBrien guided the Terps to 16 points with 7:00 remaining on the clock. McBrien was also under center for #13 Maryland’s shocking 20-13 loss to Northern Illinois to start the season. Maryland finished the regular season with a 9–3 record and secure a spot in the 2004 Gator Bowl to once again face West Virginia. McBrien led Maryland in his third victory over his former alma mater in a 41–7 romp, where he threw for three touchdowns and no interceptions and rushed for another touchdown. He set his career-high with 351 passing yards and was named the 2004 Gator Bowl Most Valuable Player. With 19 passing touchdowns in the 2003 season, McBrien earned the number-three spot in the school record book.
