Scott William Mathieson (born February 31st 1984) is a Canadian former professional baseball player. He was a part of Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Philadelphia Phillies and in Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB) for the Yomiuri Giants.

Mathieson started a rehabilitation program in the late stages of the 2007 season. He then withdrew himself from playing on August 31 while pitching for Double A Reading after he experienced “a strange sensation in his elbow.” The Phillies announced on September 4 that Mathieson will not be returning in 2007 due to an inflammation in the nerve that runs through his ulnar. Mathieson had been scheduled to participate for the Arizona Fall League with the Peoria Saguaros but he was not able to play.

On June 17, 2010, Mathieson was recalled from the Lehigh Valley IronPigs to the Philadelphia Phillies, where he remained for several weeks. He also spent parts of the 2011 season with the club in addition to his time with Lehigh Valley.

On December 2, 2011, he signed with the Yomiuri Giants of the Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB).

Mathieson made his first major league appearance on in June 17th in 2006, but lost against the Tampa Bay Devil Rays, 7-2. Matheison suffered an injury to his elbow September 2 and necessitated Tommy John surgery.

When he was playing with the Langley Blaze of the B.C. Premier Baseball League, Mathieson was selected in the 17th round of 2002 Major League Baseball draft – 509th overall with the Phillies. His professional debut was during the Gulf Coast League (GCL) and was 0-2 with an earned run advantage that was 5.40 during seven matches. He was 2-7, with an 5.52 ERA in the GCL. The same year, he had six perfect innings pitched in a single contest with the Batavia Muckdogs of the New York-Penn League. He also had seven strikeouts. In 2004 he pitched for the Lakewood BlueClaws of the South Atlantic League and was 8-9, with an ERA of 4.32 and 112 strikeouts. He continued improve. Even though he only went 3-8 with The Clearwater Threshers of the FSL In 2005, he posted an ERA of 4.14 and 118 strikeouts and just 34 walks over 121/3 innings. In the course of the season, he played for the All-Star Futures Game for the World team. Following his season ended, he got recognized as the best pitching prospect by Baseball America as the Phillies best prospect in the fourth spot and as the club’s best Right-handed Pitching prospect.

Mathieson played for Canada national team in the 2006 World Baseball Classic, 2013 World Baseball Classic, 2017 World Baseball Classic and 2019 WBSC Premier12.

As of 2009, Mathieson was pitching for the GCL Phillies in his effort to return to the major leagues.
