Friot, who was elevated to senior status on December 1st in 2014. He was heard by the United States Senate Judiciary Committee on April 20th in 2016. On May 19 the 19th of May, 2016, his nomination was voted from the committee in a voice vote. The nomination was withdrawn on the 3rd day of January in 2017 after the expiration of the 114th Congress.

Palk was inducted into the Charles Page High School Hall of Fame in 2019.

On October 25, 2017, the Senate invoked cloture on his nomination by a vote of 79–18. Palk was confirmed by the Senate on October 26, 2017, by a vote of 79–16.
