When she got married that took place at the Imperial Hotel, Tokyo on 15 November 2005 The princess Nori quit to join the Imperial Family, taking the surname of her husband of 40 years He became the first commoner who was not aristocratic to marry the status of an Imperial princess. The alteration in her status was stipulated through the Imperial Household Law that requires female members from the imperial family who get married to surrender their title, status as a member to the imperial family as well as a state-issued allowance. When she was 36 years old she was the sixth woman of the Japanese imperial family to wed an ordinary person since the adoption of the Imperial Household Law in 1947 and the first family member to lose their royal status following the wedding of princess Masako of Mikasa which was one of Akihito’s cousins in 1983.
In April 2012 Kuroda was named the high priestess of Ise Grand Shrine. Ise Grand Shrine to assist her aunt Atsuko Ikeda, the Chief Priestess of the shrine who was also subject to the rules in the Imperial Household Law upon marriage. Kuroda was one of guests at a banquet that was held in the Tokyo Imperial Palace in honour of King Philippe and Queen Mathilde of Belgium in October of 2016. Following her wedding, Kuroda has continued to be seen at formal occasions along with others from the Imperial Family. She was officially appointed to replace Atsuko Ikeda, the highest priestess of Ise Shrine on 19 June 2017.
Kuroda was the holder of the title “Nori-no-miya” (Princess Nori) until her wedding with Yoshiki Kuroda on November 15th, 2005. In the course of her wedding she renounced her title as an imperial, and quit her place in the Japanese Imperial Family in accordance with the Imperial Household Law.

Princess Sayako was born on the 18th of April, 1969 in the Imperial Household Agency Hospital in Tokyo Imperial Palace, Tokyo. Her mother Empress Emerita Michiko is a convert Shinto and Shinto from Roman Catholicism. She completed her studies at the Department of Japanese Language and Literature, Faculty of Letters, Gakushuin University, with the Bachelor of Letters degree in Japanese literature and language in 1992.
