Sasa Ognenovski (/”s Ae S@, a g N @’n F s k i / SASH -@OG -n@-NOF Skee, born on April 3, 1979) is an Australian football (soccer) player who was a central defender. He was a member of on the Australia national team for 22 occasions and last played with Sydney FC in the A-League. As of now, he is the head coach for Dandenong City, a member of the NPL Victoria team Dandenong City.

Ognenovski was allowed to play for Australia however, following his denial of being picked in the A-League located in Australian teams of Asian Cup Qualifiers against Indonesia and Kuwait Ognenovski expressed his displeasure and asked to be selected for the nation of his birth, Macedonia. Even though he was not eligible to take part in the national team of Macedonia (due due to having not yet been granted FIFA clearance) the team was selected by Srecko Katanec to join Macedonia. Republic of Macedonia national football team in the game against Moldova on February 11, 2009, but Ognenovski was not selected due to concerns about his eligibility.

In January 2009 it was revealed that Ognenovski was a target for K-League club Seongnam Ilhwa Chunma but the initial bid of A$285,000 was rejected with Adelaide asking for a transfer fee of $570,000. He was also a transfer target of another K-League side, FC Seoul, who sent officials to negotiate the fee with Adelaide.

In 2010, he was named Asian Footballer of the Year, won a position in the K-League Best XI, and won the AFC Champions League with Seongnam. These achievements led to his inclusion in the Australian squad for the 2011 AFC Asian Cup. At 1.95 m, Ognenovski was one of the tallest player to have represented the Australia national association football team, behind Zeljko Kalac.

Ognenovski was in the fiftyth A-League fixture in the match against Sydney FC on 22 November 2008 when he scored the opening goal the first time he played for Adelaide in the 2-0 victory in the 2-0 win at Hindmarsh Stadium. Then he followed it with a goal a week later, scoring a stunning equaliser in Adelaide’s 1-1 draw against Newcastle Jets heading in from another set piece.

He played for Preston Lions in the 1997-2000 and 2003-2004 seasons. He then played as a player with Melbourne Knights in the 2000-2001 and 2001-2002 seasons. The defender gave a glowing tribute to the club upon the announcement saying, “I’ve met some great people, the owners Nick and Dario are probably the best people I’ve met in football so it is a tough decision but obviously I have to secure my future and look after my family so that was the main reason that I took up the offer.”
