Sarra Besbes is one of the most popular and richest Fencer who was born on February 5, 1989 in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. Sarra Besbes (Arabic: sr@ bsbs born 5 Feb 1989) is a Tunisian fencer in the epee, a seven times gold medallist in the African Fencing Championships. She competed for Tunisia during the 2012 Summer Olympics in London and placed eighth and also at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, placing fifth.
During the 2014-15 year, Besbes was chosen from the Tunisian Olympic Committee to be part of a specific preparation program to prepare for Rio 2016. She was the first Tunisian athlete to climb the World Cup podium with a gold medal at Buenos Aires, this made her the first Tunisian fencer of both genders to be crowned the winner of an award at a World Cup event.
Besbes again qualified to the individual event of the 2016 Summer Olympics, and reached the quarterfinal. She was ultimately ranked 5th.
Besbes was born into a family of athletes Her father Ali was an ex-basketball player who later became an instructor of physical education; the mom Hayet Ben Ghazi was a foil fencer who went on to become an internationally recognized referee. Her parents moved to Abu Dhabi before she was born. They all had their children-daughters Sarra, Azza, Hela and Rym and son Ahmed Aziz, take to fencing. Azza as well as Hela are fencers in sabres and Ahmed Aziz is an epeist. Sarra herself fences foil up to the 2006-07 season when she switched to Epee.

In 2011, at the World Championships in Catania, Besbes observed that she was scheduled to fight against an Israeli athlete in the qualification stage. She approached for the Tunisian Fencing Federation for instructions and The Ministry of Youth and Sports required her to end the match in the context of Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions campaign. Instead of refusing to fight, which could have led to punishments, Besbes remained completely passive in her fight against Israeli Noam Mills and let Mills strike , without a word of resistance. The loss of 5-0 had an impact on her seeding. In her first bout in direct elimination she took on eventual gold medallist the Chinese Li Na of China and was mostly defeated. Besbes stated following the match: “I did my duty.”
She was able to compete in the individual event at the 2012 Summer Olympics as the highest-ranked female fencer of epee in Africa. She beat the Chinese Xiaojuan Luo in the round of 32 and Korea Choi In-jeong in the round of 16 but was beaten in the quarterfinals by the eventual silver medallist Britta Heidemann from Germany.
She won a bronze medal at the 2015 World Championships.
