In 2010 French was presented with an Excellence in Local Television Award by the National Lesbian & Gay Journalists Association for a 90-minute special titled “Gay in America: Tensions & Tolerance.” The show focused on teenagers who committed suicide because of bullying.

As Miss Missouri, French worked as a spokesperson for the Susan G. Komen Foundation and Children’s Miracle Network, traveling the state giving motivational speeches and speaking with young students through a program called Right Decisions, Right Now.

French took part at her first Miss America 2007 pageant broadcast live on CMT from the Theatre for the Performing Arts on the 29th of January 2007 and was awarded the Miss America 2007 Smile Award. She was on the platform “Health and Fitness for Life”. “I chose my platform because diabetes runs on both sides of my family.” She also volunteers with the Special Olympics and has written articles for Life & Home Magazine, which has a regular section on fitness and health.

French was a 2004 graduate from Lakeside High School in Arkansas She later relocated in Columbia, Missouri, to learn Broadcast Journalism at the University of Missouri. In Columbia, she was awarded the Miss Mid-Missouri title and competed for the Miss Missouri 2006 title, which she was awarded.
