Sara, the older child of Ivan Cortella and Luana Catrini began playing volleyball at Tor Sapienza, Rome, at the age of five. Through her team, Volley Friends Tor Sapienza she was a winner of several youth events, including the under 12 Rome championship in 2013, Under 13 Rome championship, Lazio championship, and Lazio championship and the XI Torneig Internacional Ciutat de Sant Cugat in 2014. the Under-14 Easter Volley in 2015 .
