Sanjay Ayre is one of the most popular and richest Sprinter who was born on June 19, 1980 in Kingston, Kingston Parish, Jamaica. Sanjay Claude Ayre (born 19 June 1980 in Kingston, Jamaica) is an international Jamaican athlete who is specialized in sprinting the 400m.
Puma North America Signed Ayre to an unidentified record-setting 3-year agreement in the month of June. Alongside Brandon Simpson, Lansford Spence and Davian Clarke, he took home bronze medals in the 4 x 400 meter relay in the World Championships in Athletics. Sanjay Ayre won a bronze medal at the 2000 Olympic Games along with Haughton, Blackwood, Mcfarlene and Mcdonald. The bronze medal was later upgraded to a silver in the year 2008. A accomplished college athlete, Ayre was a 14-time All-American during his time at Auburn University at Auburn, Alabama and was also named the “NCAA Indoor Freshman of the Year” in the year 2000. Ayre won the Gold medal during the 2004 World Indoor Championships in the 4 400 meters relay. Ayre also participated in the 400-meter event and finished as a finalist in the 4 400 meters relay at Beijing in 2008. Beijing Olympics.
In 2007 he filled the summer with dominating 400 meter performances culminating with the 2007 Jamaican National Championships where on 24 June 2007 he would win the 400 meter title in 45.07 s and go on to compete in the 4 × 400 meters relay at the 2007 World Championships in Osaka, Japan and ultimately finish his season with another top-ten world-ranking.
In 2008, Ayre was a member of the Jamaican Olympic team that recorded dominating performances in the sprint events at the Olympic Games in Beijing, China. While there, Ayre competed in the 400 meter and 4 × 400 meters relay events. Sanjay Ayre along with teammates Michael Blackwood, Ricardo Chambers, and Lansford Spence finished a disappointing eighth place after being favored to win a medal.
Ayre began his professional career when he was still to be a student athlete. His first professional appearance as an athlete was in 2003 at the Pan American Games in Santo Domingo, DR where he was awarded a gold medal for the 4 x 400 meter relay. In 2004 Ayre participated in the World Indoor Games where he won another gold medal for the 4 400 meters relay. The story of Sanjay Ayre, success continued throughout the year as he maintained the top ten position in the world in the 400-meter distance. After an unsuccessful 2006 season Ayre came back to win gold in the Central American & Caribbean Games in the 4 400 meters relay.

Ayre was a student at Calabar High School in St. Andrew, Jamaica where he excelled as an all-around athlete. He also attended DeWitt Clinton High School in the Bronx, New York, and was a participant in numerous sports. Alongside his accomplishments in track and field and achievements, he was praised for his exceptional athletic abilities in both swimming and soccer. Under the guidance by Edward Hector, he was selected as the “1999 High School Athlete of the Year” following taking home the 400-meter championship during the Indoor as well as Outdoor National Scholastic meets. At 18 years old, Ayre made his senior debut as a representative of Jamaica as part of the four-x 400m relay in the 1999 World Indoor Championships in Maebashi, Japan. The team went on to beat record after breaking the Jamaican National Record. Sanjay Ayre also won gold medals at the 1999 Junior Pan American Games and is the sole Jamaican young athlete ever to take home the title of 400 meters.
When he was enrolled at Auburn University Ayre immediately established himself as a college sprinter under the tutelage from Ralph Spry, who also was a coach for Auburn Alumnus and 400-meter World champion Avard Moncur. In his freshman year, Ayre won the 2000 SEC 400 Meter Indoor title and earned five All- American accolades. A bit hampered by injuries during the second year of his career, Ayre regained form late the summer of 2001 and played with his Jamaican World Championship team in the 400-meter and the four x 400 meter relay events. In his junior year Ayre continued to shine throughout his college career, earning multiple All-American awards and was able to participate in the 400 meter and the 4 400 meters relay events during the 2002 Commonwealth Games in Manchester, England. In his final year as a college player, Ayre finished as the NCAA 400-meter Indoor Runner-up. He also earned All-American awards in his 2003 outdoor season.
After an outstanding collegiate career, Sanjay turned professional and remained at Auburn to be coached by Ralph Spry until 2005. Following a successful 2005 season, Ayre moved on to be coached by world-renowned 400 meter coach, Clyde Hart.
