He was among the suspects in the 2013 Muzaffarnagar protests, and was arrested pursuant to the National Security Act on 24 September 2013. Som stated that he had been unaware that he was director of Al-Dua and claimed that since he was an “Hindu hardliner” it was not feasible to participate in such a position. But the following morning, Som admitted to The Hindu that he had been director at Al- Dua for approximately two years. According to The Hindu, Al-Dua’s company website states:”Al Dua Food Processing are experts in the export of high- quality lamb, sheep, hides, and goat meat.”
