Sanae Kikuta (Ju Tian Zao Miao , Kikuta Sanae, born on the 10th of September 1971, in Nerima, Tokyo) is a Japanese mixed martial artist who is currently participating within the Welterweight division. Professionally competing since 1996, he’s been a participant in his country at the UFC, PRIDE Fighting Championships, Pancrase, DREAM, World Victory Road, DEEP, Shooto, and Vale Tudo Japan. He was an ex- Pancrase Light Heavyweight Champion (2001-2003) and also the champion of the ADCC class of 88 kilograms in 2001.
Sanae continued to fight for PRIDE at the tournament Shockwave 2005, where she took on Makoto Takimoto, judo’s gold medalist, and apprentice to Hidehiko Yoshida. Kikuta began the fight by in a pull guard, but both judoka engaged in positions and submissions, with Sanae winning the majority of the fights. After securing the lead over the course of three rounds, standing and on the floor, Kikuta was given the unanimous victory.
Kikuta started training in judo in his childhood, winning the Kantō Middleweight class when he was in 3rd grade. He became a student at the Super Tiger Gym when he was in the 6th grade, learning shoot wrestling under Satoru Sayama, but he left on the feeling that he wasn’t being given enough attention in the combative aspect. Kikuta later joined the judo team again at high school, where he won the 86 kg class at the National Athletic Highschool Meeting. He also learned under Toshihiko Koga at the Nippon Sport Science University.
In his one appearance at the Ultimate Fighting Championship, Kikuta participated in the tournament Ultimate Japan III in April 2000. Kikuta beat Eugene Jones in dominant fashion knocking him down, and locking the armbar to complete the submission.

After one match with Shooto, Kikuta joined the Pancrase fighting group at the beginning of April in 1994. He won big matches against veteran Minoru Suzuki as well as Ryushi Yanagisawa. He also won a few weeks after, he established the Grabaka team with Genki Sudo Eiji Ishikawa, and Hiroo Matsunaga. Kikuta was also a participant at the ADCC Submission Wrestling World Championship in April 2001 and took home the 88kg class. In September 2001, he was awarded the honor of Pancrase Light Heavyweight Champion.
Kikuta made his MMA debut in the inaugural tournament held in 1996 by the Lumax Cup, which featured the use of Keikogi. Kikuta took the title after beating Egan Inoue, and Masanori Suda. Then, he competed for his first Vale Tudo Japan event, but was defeated by the Mushtaq Abdullah via choke on the forearm. Following his return to the Lumax Cup, he won the 1997 event as well, beating Suda again.
On January 4, 2009 at World Victory Road Presents: Sengoku Rebellion 2009, Kikuta faced fellow judoka Hidehiko Yoshida. The bout started characteristically slow, with Kikuta taking Yoshida down and tentatively exchanging strikes with him. At the second round, Kikuta opted for pulling guard and pursuing an ankle lock, but Yoshida remained on top and landed several punches through his guard. Afterwards, however, Kikuta reversed and got the mount, unloading ground and pound until the end of the round. The third round saw Yoshida stunning Kikuta with a punch and scoring a judo throw, but Sanae took his back and kept striking on him for the rest of the match, eventually winning the decision.
