Samuel Okunowo is one of the most popular and richest Association Football Player who was born on March 1, 1979 in Ibadan, Nigeria. Samuel Gbenga Okunowo (born 1 March 1979) is a Nigerian retired footballer who played mostly as a right-back.
The year 2007 was the time that Okunowo went on trial with Northwich Victoria of the Conference National and Vilanova del Cami in the Spanish amateur leagues and Vilanova del Cami, but nothing happened from it. The following year the player returned to play in the VB Sports Club in the Maldives and in the month of October the club was joined by the English club Waltham Forest, playing in an eight-level league below those of Premier League.
In July 2012, Okunowo lost all his possessions when a fire broke in his mansion in Ibadan. He subsequently reached out for help from former club Barcelona, which obliged.
On 5 January 2012, Okunowo returned to his homeland and signed with Sunshine Stars F.C. for one Nigerian Premier League campaign. He retired the following year, aged 34.
However, Okunowo didn’t stay at Barca but he did take on two loans of a low- risk nature, for Portugal’s S.L. Benfica in addition to Spanish Second Division club CD Badajoz and being released in June 2002. He then went on to play for the – but not much influence with teams from four nations: Greece, Romania, Albania and Ukraine.

Born in Ibadan Okunowo joined La Liga club FC Barcelona when he was just 18 years old. In 1998-99, he fought for a starting position for the team’s first squad alongside Michael Reiziger, and managed 21 appearances in all competitions (15 starts) during the time the Catalans won the championship of their national team.
Okunowo was a representative of Nigeria in the 1999 FIFA World Youth Championship (helping the hosts make it to the quarterfinals) as well as and the 2000 African Cup of Nations and the 2000 Summer Olympics, winning eight caps in Nigeria’s senior squad.
In February 2010, Okunowo underwent a trial with Polish Ekstraklasa side Odra Wodzislaw, in an attempt to return to top flight football, but nothing materialized. He also met the same fate whilst looking for a club in Norway.
