Her debut novel Ways to Live Forever was written while she was in Bath Spa. The story follows an 11-year old girl named Sam who has been diagnosed with leukaemia (a type of cancer) and was written as a book of the boy. The book was released in 2008 by Marion Lloyd Books, part of Scholastic Press in January 2008. The book was later turned into a film of the same name which was released in 2010.
Her fourth book, Close Your Pretty Eyes , is about 11-year-old Olivia, who has spent most of her life in the care system, with many different foster parents, most of whom she has despised and treated badly. In the book Olivia believes that she encounters the ghost of Amelia Dyer, real 19th-century baby-farmer who murdered many of the babies she was paid to care for.
