Abdurahmanov said that the substances were planted as a response to an article he recently published about the alleged corruption in traffic police. When blood tests revealed no drugs in the Abdurahmanov’s system, authorities stepped up the penalty to possession with the intent to sell. On October 10, 2008 Abdurahmanov was found to be guilty in a district court , and was sentenced for 10 years’ prison. The sentence was confirmed by Karakalpak Supreme Court’s Appeal Commission two days later.
