Safi Urrehman Qureshey is Pakistani-American businessman. He was co-founder and the CEO of AST Research, Inc. A manufacturer of personal computers which was acquired in 1997 by Samsung Electronics in 1997. Qureshey has been involved in a variety of technology startups as adviser, board member, and seed investor. Qureshey currently serves as the regent’s Professor at University of California, Irvine’s (UCI’s) Graduate School of Management and actively assists U.C. Irvine’s Bonney Center for Neurobiology of Learning and Memory. Qureshey completed his studies at The University of Texas at Arlington in 1975, majoring in Computer Science. In 2000, he founded the self-declared “Safi Qureshey Foundation” to offer “a conduit of support for socially and economically underserved children and adults to build better and more secure futures”.

In 2000, Qureshey launched the Irvine Ventures incubator with a $50M investment. The group works with UCI and other local research institutions to launch new companies.

In 2003, Qureshey was named by California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger to his transition team, to help him put together his new administration. Qureshey was also a member of President Clinton’s Export Council, where he traveled to emerging countries with successive Secretaries of Commerce to promote international business.

He was the founder of his own foundation, the Safi Qureshey Foundation, which assists economically and socially underserved adults and children, and the foundation is a trustee for Give2Asia an organization that is that is dedicated to building an ethical and socially responsible activity in Asia. This is the Qureshey Research Laboratory (QRL) located at the University of California, Irvine UCI which was established in 1997 was named in honor of his daughter in honor of a major contribution from Qureshey.
